Abstract:
The present work is devoted to the extraction of essential oils, on the one
hand to determine the EO yields of several samples of Citrus aurantium
coming from stations in the region of Ghardaia (Mansoura) and to evaluate
the biological activities, in particular antifungal and antioxidant activities.
The extraction of essential oils was carried out by hydrodistillation with a
Clevenger type apparatus. The epicarp of the fruits of this plant species is
rich in essential oil. Yields vary widely, ranging from 1.77 to 2.48%.
However, the average yield in Ghardaia station ( 2.14 )%
The antibacterial activity results showed that the essential oils of Citrus
aurantium species
exhibit better inhibitory activity against Gram-positive (+) bacteria
(Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis) than Gram-negative (-) bacteria
(Escherichia coli).
