Medicinal plants, essential sources of bioactive metabolites, are used worldwide in traditional
and modern medicine. Recently, research about their antioxidant properties has intensified.
Algerian plants have been shown to be particularly effective as antioxidant agents, offering
promising potential for natural medicinal applications.
This work concerns the evaluation in vitro of the antioxidant power of Fagonia Bruguieri DC,
a Saharan medicinal plant collected in Tamanrasset region belonging to the Zygophyllaceae
family, as well as the identification of its bioactive molecules. The extraction of the extract
was carried out by maceration with solvents of increasing polarity, and then their antioxidant
activity was evaluated using four methods: DPPH, iron reduction, phosphomolybdate and
ABTS and compared to synthetic antioxidants, such as BHA, BHT, ascorbic acid and α-tocopherol. Additionally, quantitative analysis of the extract was performed to measure the
content of polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins. The obtained results indicate that this plant
contains high amounts of phenolic compounds and flavonoids and tannins. The evaluation of
the antioxidant activity of her extract through the four tests used reveals that this plant has
significant antioxidant activity compared to synthetic antioxidants. |
