dc.description.abstract The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the vocabulary teaching strategies used by secondary school English language teachers in improving and developing the reading and writing skills of EFL learners. This research has been conducted under a mixed method that combines quantitative and qualitative methods. The sample of this research was seventy students chosen randomly from different levels in Secondary Schools in Provinceof Ghardaiaas well as twenty-six teachers from public secondary schools in Ghardaia, Algeria at the academic year 2023/2024. The data was collected through two questionnaires that were administered to both students and teachers. The Findings revealed that both teachers and students consider vocabulary as an important factor in enhancing the reading and the writing skills. Furthermore, teachers showed their awareness of their learners’ difficulties to comprehend a written text and express themselves clearly in writing, so, they suggested several strategies to teach vocabulary.
