Abstract:
Our work contributes to the knowledge of medicinal plants used in the traditional treatment of
urinary infections by the population of the wilaya of Ghardaïa. To achieve this, a series of
ethnobotanical surveys were conducted using 130 questionnaire forms.
The results obtained allowed the identification of 52 medicinal species belonging to 24 botanical
families. The most important families are Apiaceae and Poaceae, followed by Lamiaceae. Among
the species, Artemisia herba-alba, Lavandula officinalis, Petroselinum crispum, and Hordeum
vulgare are frequently used in the treatment of urinary infections. The leaves are the most used
part, and most remedies are prepared by decoction, while fumigation is recommended for
Artemisia herba-alba. These plant-based remedies are administered orally, mainly in the form of
herbal tea.
The collection and analysis of the data gathered enabled the establishment of a catalog of
medicinal plant recipes and the compilation of all information concerning the therapeutic
practices used by the local population.
