Abstract:
The present work focuses on a study of the diet of the Bubo ascalaphe through the
analysis of 39 pellets regurgitated by this raptor in the El-Menia region over a period of 3
months. The analysis of the regurgitated pellets allowed for the identification of 12 prey
species and two categories belonging to rodents (98.3%), Insects (1.6%) with a total of 61
individuals. The prey species most consumed by this predator are Gerbillidae sp., Muridae
sp., Gerbillus sp., Gerbillus gerbillus, and Gerbillus nanus. Our raptor behaves as an
opportunistic and generalist predator (E=0.78) in the study region concerning its prey.
