Polymer/ZnO film nanocomposites have gained attention due to their potential
applications in various fields, including biomedical engineering, food packaging, and
environmental remediation. Through the solution casting method, this study looks at a new
biogenic way to make a biodegradable film with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) as
nanofiller However, the ZnO NPs were prepared through precipitation method using
saxifragaceae plant extract.
The prepared nanoparticles and nanocomposites films were characterized for their
morphology and crystallinity using various techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy,
and X-ray diffraction. The XRD and scanning electron microscopy analysis showed the
crystalline nature of ZnO NPs with spherical morphology. The MEB results showed that the
polymer/ZnO film nanocomposites had a uniform morphology. The chitosan/ZnO film
nanocomposites were also explored for their antioxidant and antibacterial activity against
gram - negative bacteria Escherichia coli and gram - positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus
under visible light irradiation. The nanocomposites exhibited good antibacterial activity,
indicating their potential application in the development of antibacterial food packaging
materials.
