The field of herbal medicine is widespread in our time and opens up new treatment
horizons. We set out in this work with the aim of evaluating the effectiveness of medicinal
plants that have an effect on kidney stones (nephrolithiasis).
Through people's experiences, we came to choose the Periploca laevigata plant and study
its effect on kidney stones. On the other hand, and to enhance our research, we decided to
compare the effectiveness of this plant with Renalof, which is known to affect stones. To
further support our research, we chose a plant that is able to contribute to increasing the
formation of Stones We found Spinacia oleracea plant because it contains the basic element
for the formation of "calcium oxalate".
Periploca laevigata plant contains tannins, alkaloids, saponins, reducing compounds,
sterols, and triterpenes, and a high percentage of flanoids estimated at 28.17 ± 0.464 mg
EAG/g MS compared to nonphenols, which was estimated at 12.02 ± 0.15 mg EAG/g MS.
Spinacia oleracea plant contains alkaloids, reducing compound, sterols, and triterpenes,
and a high percentage of flavonoids estimated at 25.6 ± 0.068 mg EQ/g MS, compared to
nonphenols, which was estimated at 5.9 ± 0.422 mg EQ/g MS.
Based on the results of our stone formation inhibition study, we concluded that the drug
Renalof inhibited stone formation by 69% and the plant Periploca laevigata by 26,76%.
At the end of the study, we concluded that the 'Hellab', Periploca laevigata, had a positive
effect on kidney stones.
