Abstract:
The study on the toxicity of leaf extracts of Capparis spinosa L. plant (Capparidaceae)
harvested in the northern Sahara, Algerian East against the L
3
larvae of Culex pipiens L. (Diptera,
Culicidae). It is noted that larvae of Culex pipiens treated with the aqueous extract Capparis
spinosa, a mortality rate which varies with the concentration of extract. In effect the percentage of
the maximum mortality is reported for the larvae treated with plant extract concentrated to 100%,
90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, 50%, 40% and 30% mortality rate 100% after five days of exposure. While
extracts 20%, 10% where mortality is around 50% and 33.3% respectively were recorded. The
CE50%
and CE
90%
calculated for the third-stage larvae (L
3
) of Culex pipiens, have shown that the
extract has proved advantageous in terms of toxicity, it has in effect an EC
50
and EC90%
low, it is
0.08 mg / ml and 0.04 mg / ml respectively. Evaluation of lethal time 50 (LT50%
) and lethal time
90 (TL90%
), shows that the extract of C. spinosa 100%, 90%, 80%, shows a particular speed of
action vis-à towards larvae of Culex pipiens. Well what these results are preliminary, they show a
good larvicidal activity of aqueous extracts of leaves Capparis spinosa.
