The study is carried out in the region of Ghardaia, in the northern part of the Sahara. The
climate of this region is Saharan type with mild winter. The study environment is a reg,
characterized by date palm and arboriculture. In addition, a spontaneous vegetation. Surveys
carried out in the study station made it possible to inventory 20 species of Orthoptera divided
into 02 families, 05 subfamilies and 12 genera. The Oedipodinae subfamily is best represented
in species in the Ghardaia region. The determination of the contents of the feces under the light
microscope compared to a reference Epidermothèque, in a medium cultivated at Touzouz
(Ghardaïa), allowed us to specify for eight locusts, their diets. Locusts consumed nine plant
species on 17 of the plants recorded in the study station. The species selected by the insect are:
Cynodon dactylon, Elymus repens, Polypogon monspeliensis, Bromus sterilis, Ephedra sp,
Rumex vesicarius, Crepis sp, Atriplex hortensis and Chenopodiastrum mural.
