Abstract:
The purpose of this work is to analyze the practices, attitudes, knowledge and
awareness of farmers in Souf region about the risks or side effects of pesticide use on human
health and the environment. To achieve our goal In this memory, situation use of pesticides in
vegetable cropsby farmers? For this purpose, a survey of 120 farmers was conducted in the field
at eight important sites namely Reguiba, Guemar, Taghzout, Ourmes, Magran, Trifaoui, Hassi
Khalifa and Robah, using an adapted individual questionnaire. It focused on socio-occupational
data, the main pesticides used, the sources of knowledge, the environmental perception and the
health of producers following the use of pesticides. The results reveal that more than 90% of
farmers agree that using pesticides reduces pest and disease losses and ensures good yields.
However, the decision to perform the phytosanitary treatments and the treatment times do not
differ much from one farmer to another and from one region to another. The methods of use and
the time to harvest are not controlled. Most farmers with a low level of education (39.1% had a
primary level of education) do not have a good knowledge of application rates and treatment
frequencies. They are unconvinced of the direct risks they incur and almost all (74%) do not
protect themselves.
