This work concerns the bacteriological quality of the water of distribution of the region of Ghardaia city. This
study is made for purpose of the surveillance and the conservation of the bacteriological quality of the water
since the feed of station of municipality of Ghardaia up to various points of distribution network. For every
sample, we were interested in the analysis of the residual chlorine and in the search and in the enumeration of the
total and faecal coliformes, feacal Streptococci, and especially the resistance of bacteria in the disinfectant
(chlorine). Samples were taken in 2 districts, 3 points in every one, and a sample of feed before chlorination.
Analyses showed the presence of some species of bacteria in the water which resisted the concentration of the
chlorine lower than 1 mg/l: the enterobacter cloacae, Citrobacter criticizes, Provencia stratum, who can cause
infections, but the concentration of the latter is low. Thus according to the standards of the WHO the water is
drinkable, and ready to be consumed.
