Abstract:
The study of the nesting strategy of two species of turtledove streptopelia senegalensis and
Turkish turtledove streptopelia decaocto ”nesting in the city of Ghardaia was carried out by
regular monitoring over three months (December - March) in three different sites (Hospital
, Hotel El Djanoub and cited Bounoura) whose objective is to know do these two species
have the same nesting behavior or not towards the same habitat?
The method used is the systematic search for nests, which consists in systematically
searching all the vegetation once or twice a week in each of the three sites.
The height of the nests, the distance from the trunk and the nearest water point were
measured by a laser meter
The results show that the height of the nests of mesh doves is higher 8.50 ± 2.47 m than
those of Turkish doves 6.83 ± 2.82m, while the orientation preferred by Streptopelia
senegalensis is towards the North. west, unlike streptopelia decaocto, the preferable
orientation is east (north-east and south-east) and finally the installation of the nests of two
species is 80% on the trunk
