Abstract: This work focuses on the bibliographic study of the beneficial effect of essential oils in the control against a pest of stored crops, the cowpea weevil Callosobrochus maculatus. Cowpea V. unguiculata is an essential source of protein, especially in poor regions of the world, but is at risk of being devastated by the cowpea weevil C. maculatus. For this and in order to protect it biologically, we have studied research on the effect of essential oils represented by eucalyptus oil, rosemary, olive oil, basil, lavender, thyme and clove on this pest, and we concluded that some oils have a weak effect on the insect, such as basil and rosemary oil. While eucalyptus oil completely prevents its reproduction, and others prevent its development because it kills it, such as thyme, cloves and lavender. Finally, it is clear that essential oils can play an important role in the control of cowpea weevil. However, the effect of the essential oil remains dependent on the nature of the attack.
