Abstract: Pesticides are products used to control pests in agriculture, various industries, homes and gardens. They have been used in large quantities in recent decades and their terrible spread threatens the environment and health, especially the nervous system. In this work we will study the effect of methomyl (MET) on motor balance and coordination and on the cerebellum and reactivity of astrocytes after sub-chronic exposure. Ten adult male Wistar rats are given 1/16 lethal dose 50 (LD50) by gavage of MET dissolved in distilled water and 10 control rats are given distilled water for 28 days. At the end of the experiment, the balance test statistic and the motor coordination of rats were studied. Then were sacrificed and the cerebellum is taken. The morphology of Purkinje cells at the cerebellum level of rats was examined by Nissl staining and the reactivity of astrocytes at the cerebellum level was also studied. Our results showed that exposure to TEM causes a very significant decrease in balance and motor coordination in intoxicated rats compared to controls, morphological chenges in cerebellum Purkinje cells and increased expression of GFAP (glial fibrillary acid protein) by astrocytic cells had also shown
