Abstract

The element of prisoners is an essential component in the formation of society in the modern Morocco, as it had active contributions in various fields of life, among them were carpenters and surgeons... and other tasks and roles that enabled them to enter into relations with Moroccans and thus partially integrate into society, as it enabled them to write notes full of events and important historical stations, where these writings had a very important role in the historiography of the history of Morocco from a Western Christian view that carried many secrets and details that are indispensable to the researcher in history, where the prisoner Muwait and his ancestors were among the most prominent prisoners who wrote their memoirs and were distinguished by the great interest in recording every tiny detail in it, even what they transmitted and did not experience themselves, especially those exciting stories of the prisoners or the very accurate urban description, which shows us the extent of their insistence on conveying the idea with all their efforts so that the Christian reader benefit from it, whether for the sake of expenditure for their fellow captives by describing their sufferings, or for the sake of that merchant who intends to trade in Morocco through strict recommendations on what he should do and not do. The memoirs of the prisoner Mowait dealt with many aspects of the lives and major events in Morocco. However, many of them had clearly visible exaggerations and

contradictions, as a result of the religious fanaticism that characterized this prisoner at times in service of his desired goal of writing, which calls for the researcher to be very careful in some sensitive parts of these writings.
