Abstract

This research aims to analyse the contributions of civil societyto economic growth in southern Algeria, by highlighting its developmental effectiveness and exploringits future prospects. The research begins by addressing modern concepts of civil societyand its economic and social roles, then moves on to study the mechanisms of its influence in supportingentrepreneurship, promoting the social and solidarity economy, and improving local governance. The research revealsthat civil society in the southern provinces is a promising development actor,

capable ofmobilising local initiatives, empowering vulnerable groups, and creating influential socialand economic networks. However, its role remains limited by internal challenges such as weak organisation and lack of governance, and external challenges such as bureaucracy and the difficult economic environment in the Sahara.The research proposes a vision for the future to enhance the effectiveness of civil society through capacity building, diversification offunding, developing partnerships with the private sector, and exploiting the potential of the south in desert agriculture, renewable energies, and cultural tourism. The study concludes that the activation ofcivil society as a strategic economic actor is one of the basic conditions for achieving sustainable developmentand establishing a productive and balanced local economy in southern Algeria.
